REPORT: Manafort Wants "No Cooperation" Plea Deal

Paul Manafort has reached a tentative plea deal with the special counsel Robert Mueller. Negotiations have been underway between his lawyers and the office of Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller.

The Post story also didn't have any inside information on the key question: Will Manafort agree to some sort of guilty plea simply to avoid rolling the dice at trial or does this deal involve cooperating with Mueller against Trump.

Manafort was convicted on 8 of 18 charges in a separate trial in Virginia that ended last month.

ABC News spotted Manafort and his attorneys entering a secret entrance to the building where Mueller's office is located on Thursday morning, and the two parties spent more than four hours in there. Jackson is allowing prosecutors to mention that Manafort was campaign chairman in August 2016 when press reports, including articles by The Associated Press, called attention to his lobbying work on behalf of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and the pro-Russian Party of Regions.

Manafort has been held in jail for the last several months after prosecutors accused him of witness tampering. It's unclear whether Manafort has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors.

United Kingdom : 'no deal' Brexit could leave competition cases in limbo
The government played down fears that holidaymakers would be hit with swingeing roaming charges for using mobile phone in the EU. However, in recent weeks that October deadline has been pushed back until November by the United Kingdom government.

Indications have mounted throughout this week that a plea deal was in the works.

Manafort hasn't been sentenced since his Virginia verdict, but the prospect of that prison time and more punishment in the District of Columbia case may have prompted him and his lawyers to seek to avoid the second trial.

Rick Gates, Manafort's former business partner and the campaign's deputy chairman, pleaded guilty to lesser charges in exchange for his cooperation, later testifying against Manafort in Virginia. In ruling against Manafort's request for a change of venue, Jackson said she could reconsider if they are unable to qualify enough jurors to proceed to jury selection in the case, scheduled to begin September 17.

Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor who is representing Trump in the Russian Federation probe, previously told the Politico news outlet that taking a plea deal to avoid a second trial would not crush Manafort's chances of receiving an eventual presidential pardon.

Trump discussed a possible pardon for Manafort with his lawyers earlier this summer, attorney Rudy Giuliani has told NPR.
