LAPD announces arrest in recent celebrity burglaries

03 October 2018, 03:25 | Max Haynes

Some of the homes hit belong to Rihanna, Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, actress and singer Christina Milian and Rams wide receiver Robert Woods.

On Thursday, however, when Woods's Woodland Hills home was being broken into while he played against the Minnesota Vikings at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, a neighbor witnessed the suspects fleeing into their getaway vehicle and called police, Carranza said.

Tyress Williams and Jshawne Daniels, both 19, and Damaji Hall, 18, were arrested, while Hall's mother, 34-year-old Ashle Hall, was arrested on Sunday, Ms Carranza said.

Puig has been burglarized four times, including twice last month at his home in Encino.

When police pulled over Williams last Friday in connection with the burglary of Woods' home, the officers found stolen items from the homes of Woods, Rihanna, Puig and Milian in Williams' auto.

After determing that one of the men was a suspect in the Woods burglary, police searched his vehicle and found stolen items taken from the homes of Puig, Rihanna and Milian.

"They flock like birds to areas where the rich and famous resided", she said.

Investigators now say what seemed like a string of random burglaries targeting celebrities is part of a gang operation in which suspects picked the homes based on social media postings and celebrities' travel schedules.

More arrests were expected, she said. There, they found $50,000 in cash, watches, jewelry, designer bags and other valuables, Carranza said.

When the suspects scouted celebrity neighborhoods before the burglaries, they wore button-down shirts and drove luxury cars to avoid attracting attention, Carranza said.

After knocking on the door to make sure nobody was home, the thieves would break in through a door or window and clean out the master bedroom, stealing cash, weapons, watches and other items in a matter of minutes - often before the alarm company could notify police, Carranza said. It's unclear whether the other three suspects have been charged.
