Exclusive: Aston Villa preparing to sack Steve Bruce
Steve Bruce has been sacked as Aston Villa manager less than five months after leading them to the Championship play-off final.
The team from the West Midlands are now languishing in 13th position in the Championships table, having narrowly missed getting promoted into the Premier League last season. His side beat Germany in their opening group game in Russian Federation 2018. "We wish them well for the future", a club statement said.
Bruce oversaw his side play out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Preston North End in the Championship last night, with Glenn Whelan missing a stoppage time penalty kick to give his manager a much needed win.
Both Martin and Michael O'Neill have been linked with Aston Villa job following the sacking of Steve Bruce on Wednesday.

Assistant boss Colin Calderwood and coaches Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence and Gary Walsh have also left Villa Park, with under-23s manager Kevin MacDonald taking charge of Saturday's game at Millwall. The process to appoint a new manager is under way.
Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill has had a previous spell in charge at Villa Park and Paddy Power are offering 6/1 odds on the former Northern Ireland captain making a return.
Villa has won just one of its last 10 games and is ranked 12th in the 24-team league.
Bruce's Villa exit is the latest chapter in a managerial career which has failed to reflect the former Manchester United defender's success as a player.
