MI man's doorstop rock turns out to be a $100000 meteorite

Central Michigan University The meteorite was reportedly found on a farm in Edmore, Michigan, in the 1930s.

The rock, which at the time was used to prop open doors, was taken by the farm's new owner when he eventually sold the property, and only just got around to seeing if it was actually a true meteorite.

She determined that it was in fact a 22-plus pound meteorite, making it the sixth-largest recorded find in MI - and potentially worth $100,000.

A rock that was used as a doorstop on a MI farm for decades has been identified as a meteorite worth $100,000.

Central Michigan University said the meteorite's owner has pledged to give 10 percent of a sale's proceeds to fund Earth and atmospheric sciences students at the university, which would technically make it a schoolhouse rock.

But that all changed when she was asked to examine an oddly shaped large rock that a MI man, who didn't want to be named, had had in his possession for the last 30 years.

A man from Grand Rapids, Michigan, who told the university he wanted to remain anonymous, brought the rock to Sirbescu for examination earlier this year. In the morning, the farmer and his father found the crater and dug out the still-warm meteorite.

"I could tell right away that this was something special", Mona Sirbescu, a geologist at Central Michigan University said. "I wonder how much mine is worth'".

However, with this game being a must-win Champions League fixture, Pep is likely to pick his most trusted and strongest team. The most shocking result from the first Champions League games was Manchester City losing to Lyon.

Upon receiving the meteorite, Sirbescu evaluated it and discovered it was an iron-nickel meteorite, composed of 8 to 8.5 percent iron and 11.5 percent nickel.

Even though Dr. Sirbescu knew exactly what it was, it had to be sent to the Smithsonian Museum for verification, it wasn't until Thursday word came back it definitively is a meteorite, the 6th largest ever found in MI.

The meteorite hasn't sold yet, but the Smithsonian Museum is considering buying it, as well as another collector.

Throughout her tenure, Sirbescu has frequently been asked to examine specimens of alleged space rocks, to see if they were worth any money.

The Smithsonian considered buying the meteorite for display.

The Smithsonian and a mineral museum in ME are considering purchasing the meteorite for display, according to CMU.

Then, "I said, wait a minute".
