Nintendo patents a case to make your smartphone a Game Boy

Nintendo's phone case patent turns your handset into a Game Boy
As soon as there is further information regarding the case I will be sure to update you. Unfortunately, it looks as though Nintendo may have other plans for its original portable gaming device.
According to a recent patent application filed this Spring, the Japanese tech company may be working on a Game Boy phone case built with operational buttons.
According to the patent, which was unearthed by technology blog Siliconera, the physical buttons on the front of the case are created to interact with a touchscreen when the case is clasped over a smartphone.
The designs, which Nintendo patented back in March 2018, show the casing which would be enclosed around the entirety of the phone.
Nintendo recently began selling NES-style controllers for the Switch to use with the console's new Online Subscription service, which includes access to more than 20 NES games on demand. The shell has a button layout identical to the classic Game Boy.
The folio opens to show the inside cover of the GameBoy case and the touchscreen device. Smartphone cases tend to be model-specific.
Offering a case rather than a complete Game Boy certainly saves on cost for Nintendo, but it also poses a few big problems. That leaves just enough room beneath for the throwback tactile buttons, giving gamers a package that pretty closely approximates the handheld dimensions - minus the thickness - of the Game Boy handheld. Companies patent ideas all the time, and a very small number of them see the light of day, or make it into actual products you can buy.
Whether there's enough good ones to justify what is probably going to be quite an expensive smartphone case remains to be seen though.
