Kim, Pompeo agree to 2nd US-North Korea summit 'at earliest date'
Kim Jong-un and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had lunch and discussed future relations between the two countries.
He added he had a "good, productive conversation" with Kim, although he stroke a cautious note indicating that more work still needed to be done.
Pompeo did not have a scheduled meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, a fact that a senior U.S. State Department official on the trip said was not odd, even though top U.S. officials often meet Chinese heads of state on visits.
Pompeo told journalists in Seoul that the leader had agreed to open up the Punggye-ri nuclear testing site to inspectors.
Moon's Europe tour, scheduled for October 13 to 21, is primarily to attend the Asia-Europe Meeting in Belgium and includes stops in France, Italy and Denmark, his office said.
That makes any focus on a second Trump-Kim summit misguided, Klingner of Heritage said.
Pompeo said he's "hopeful" global inspectors would soon be allowed on select sites associated with North Korea's missile and nuclear program, and didn't comment on Pyongyang's insistence that inspectors would be allowed into the Yongbyon site only if the US took corresponding measures.
"Kim Jong Un appreciated the positively developing situation on the Korean peninsula".
A meeting of top United States and Chinese diplomats in Beijing to discuss North Korean nuclear disarmament got off to a frosty start.

"North Korea is bolstering its ties with China and Russian Federation so although the U.S. is maintaining the sanctions regime, it's on thin ice", said Hong Hyun-ik, an analyst at the Sejong Institute. No, really. He wrote me attractive letters, and they're great letters.
Pompeo responded by saying that Washington and Beijing were stuck in a "fundamental disagreement" that he hoped they could make some progress on resolving.
"President Moon had said the Pyongyang summit must receive the support of the global community, and suggested [inviting the pope] would be one way" of earning trust, a South Korean presidential Blue House source told Hankyoreh.
Trump has insisted the global community must stick to the sanctions against North Korea until Kim denuclearises.
The invitation follows a series of meetings between Kim and American officials, including a summit with President Donald Trump, and with South Korea's head of state.
Pompeo's trip was the latest turn in a diplomatic saga that saw Trump and Kim threaten each other with nuclear war past year only to sign a vague agreement in June to "work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula". "After having a nice meeting we can enjoy a meal together", Kim told Pompeo as they walked down a hallway toward a guesthouse dining room.
While Mr Kim's actions since have fallen short of Washington's demands, the Trump administration is preparing for a second summit.
The North's regime since then has allowed Catholic organisations to run aid projects in the impoverished country, but direct relations with the Vatican are non-existent.
Alex Cora made the right moves when Red Sox needed it most
Just like that, Holt has become the first player in Major League Baseball history to hit for the cycle in the postseason. That's also the only run Eovaldi has conceded in four Red Sox appearances against NY this season, covering 23 innings.

Female Dr Who a hit with viewers
The episode itself was, as the Brits say, bog-standard, as far as Who episodes go. "I know exactly who I am". Friendship, loyalty and survival. "So even though they're gone from the world, they're never gone from me".
