15 suspects, video footage offer new clues in case of missing Saudi reporter
The official described a quick and complex operation in which Mr. Khashoggi was killed within two hours of his arrival at the consulate by a team of Saudi agents, who dismembered his body with a bone saw they brought for the goal.
The Sabah newspaper, which is similarly close to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, published images of what it referred to as the "assassination squad" apparently taken at passport control.
The footage was compiled and edited by Turkish authorities piecing together a timeline of the events of October 2, the last day Khashoggi was seen, as he stepped into city's Saudi consulate to finalize papers for his wedding, according to a person close to the investigation who provided it.
The team arrived in Istanbul on two private planes, one of which landed after 3 a.m. (0000 GMT) on Tuesday while the second plane landed around 5 p.m. (1400 GMT) after Khashoggi entered the consulate.
Saudi officials have dismissed the accusations as "baseless" and claim Khashoggi left the consulate by another exit, but did not provide proof.
Sabah revealed the times the Saudi nationals arrived and left Istanbul.
"In most cases, their arrests have never been officially confirmed and no official has ever said where they are being held or what they are charged with", RSF, which defends press freedom around the world, said in a statement.
The search will take place as part of the official investigation, which was being conducted "in an intense manner", he said without giving any date.
Khashoggi's fiancée asks Trump to 'shed light' on his fate
"Two possibilities, either he was killed at the consulate and his body transported out on to the planes onward to Dubai/Cairo - then Riyadh, or he was abducted at the consulate and renditioned back to Saudi Arabia". The footage shows Khashoggi entering the consulate on October 2. The video also shows alleged Saudi planes and agents, whom Turkish officials want to investigate in relation to the dissident journalist's disappearance.
Among the assassination team was a forensic expert who brought a bone saw to dismember Khashoggi's body after killing him, the Times reported on Tuesday, citing an unidentified "senior official".
"I also urge Saudi Arabia, especially King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to show the same level of sensitivity and release CCTV footage from the consulate", she wrote.
At 5:32 p.m., cameras show Khashoggi's fiancée, Hatice Cengiz, outside the police barricades of the consulate, speaking into her cellphone.
Trump on Monday expressed concern about Khashoggi's case and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called for a thorough investigation. The video ends with shots of two private jets, saying that six men left at 5:40 p.m. and seven left at 9 p.m.
Khashoggi's fiance has asked US President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump to "help shed light" on his disappearance.
Before Khashoggi disappeared, United States intelligence intercepted communications of Saudi officials discussing a plan to grab him, the Washington Post reported.
Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy said Tuesday that Saudi authorities have notified Ankara that they were "open to cooperation" and would allow the consulate building to be searched. Saudi Arabia may have agreed to the search in order to reassure its Western allies and the global community.
