New Reports Add Detail To Disappearance Of Saudi Journalist Jamal Khashoggi

But people saw him go in but they didn't see him come out as they understand it.

"Jamal has many friends in the Kingdom, including myself, and despite our differences, and his choice to go into his so called 'self-exile, ' we still maintained regular contact when he was in Washington", Khalid bin Salman added.

"We are very very disturbed" by Khashoggi's disappearance", said Code Pink founder Meda Benjamin. "We don't know what happened yet". "We have jobs, we have a lot of things happening in this country".

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) told reporters Wednesday that the Senate would "take some action" regarding the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Politico reported.

In making that determination, the senators hope Trump "will consider any relevant information, including with respect to the highest ranking officials in the Government of Saudi Arabia". He also added, the free world deserves answers.

The prince denied as "absolutely false" any suspicion that Saudi agents might have detained or killed Khashoggi, and contended it was "outrageous" to think he might have been "murdered in the consulate, during business hours, and with dozens of staff and visitors in the building".

National security adviser John Bolton and senior adviser Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law, talked with Salman on Tuesday, while Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had a follow-up call with the Saudi leader to reiterate the USA demand for information about the case, the White House said.

He said he'll try to force a vote in the Senate this week blocking USA arms sales to Saudi Arabia. The Saudi foreign ministry was working to "see exactly what happened at that time", he said.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders added that the U.S. would continue to inquire about the fate of the journalist.

Trump, speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, said he's spoken "more than once" with the Saudis in recent days but didn't provide details of the conversation.

"At this time, I implore President Trump and first lady Melania Trump to help shed light on Jamal's disappearance", Cengiz wrote. "If Donald Trump is not getting in touch with the king of Saudi Arabia, he is being derelict in his duty....(Trump's) statements, so far, have been completely inadequate".

The release of the photographs and video raises pressure on Saudi Arabia a week after Khashoggi disappeared during a visit to the consulate. Social media profiles of some of the alleged suspects link them to elite arms of the Saudi security apparatus.

The officials wanted to bring him back to Saudi, the Post reported, citing an unidentified official familiar with the situation.

State Department deputy spokesman Robert Palladino earlier insisted that the United States had no forewarning of any concrete threat to Khashoggi.

If evidence implicates the Saudi Government in Khashoggi's disappearance or death, it would indicate a new level of violence that authorities are willing to undertake to silence criticism of the crown prince, whose jailing of opponents at home has undercut his efforts to fashion himself as a moderniser of his conservative kingdom.

Khashoggi's fiancee, Hatice Cengiz, said she waited for him and he never came back out on October 2.

Khashoggi left Saudi Arabia previous year saying he feared retribution for his criticism of Riyadh over the Yemen war and its crackdown on dissent, and since then wrote columns for the Washington Post. "Everything points to them". "To me.it feels very much some nefarious activity has occurred by them".

The move added pressure on close US ally Riyadh to provide more information on the whereabouts of the prominent critic of Saudi policies, whose disappearance has sparked global concern.

Turkish police were also looking into the possibility that Khashoggi was kidnapped, local media reported.
