Blizzard announces Diablo Immortal for mobile devices, opens pre-registration
Now, with Diablo III having expanded to consoles-including, as of today, Nintendo Switch-Blizzard has its eyes set on what might be its most hard adaptation of the action RPG yet: mobile.
Early details regarding Diablo Immortal confirm that the mobile game will feature six different classes at launch: Barbarian, Monk, Wizard, Crusader, Demon Hunter, and Necromancer. This being a Diablo game, you can bet amiibo support will be on theme.
Blizzard says Immortal is set between the events of Diablo II and Diablo III and follows the villainous Skarn, Herald of Terror, as he travels across the land to gather Worldstone shards and resurrect demon lord Diablo.
The fan stepped up to the microphone and asked Diablo: Immortal developer Wyatt Cheng if Diablo: Immortal was an out of season April Fool's joke, which drew a cheer and some whistles from the crowd.
Now sure, people are entitled to take interest on what they please, but this seems like a full Diablo experience, albeit on a mobile platform.
It's an interesting and ambitious take on the franchise, but fan reaction is already mixed. There were audible boos when the team said they had no plans to bring the game to PC. (An iOS version of the game was also announced, though no iOS listing for the game yet exists.) Blizzard did not announce information about the game's pricing structure or release window. Blizzard has hinted at this several times, but concluding your big opening ceremony with a Diablo mobile game seems like a misstep to us. According to Gamestop, it "opens up a portal in game".
Announcements of a brand-new, smartphone-only Diablo and a remastered WarCraft 3 headlined a news-filled BlizzCon keynote presentation on Friday.
