2018 Zhuhai Madison Keys withdraws from Zhuhai
The Australian only needed 81 minutes to see off Wang in Zhuhai, the Australian cruising to a 6-3 6-4 victory that brings the third tournament win of her career.
The Australian Woman, Ashleigh Barty, rallied past the defending champion Julia Goerges, to reserve a berth in the finals of the WTA Elite Trophy.
Wang looked well-positioned to get back into the match but couldn't fashion a break against Barty and ultimately paid for her missed chances in the seventh game.
Spurred on by home fans at the Hengqin International Tennis Center, Wang dominated the former world number one, winning 11 games in a row to take the match 6-2, 6-0 and set up a Sunday showdown against Ashleigh Barty.
Along with the 26-year-old, Wang Qiang, who routed the Spaniard, Garbine Muguruza in straight sets to reach the final.
The ninth seed imposed herself early in the match, winning the first four games on her way to taking the first set comfortably.
It is her third WTA singles title, adding to her breakthrough 2017 trophy at the Malaysian Open and this year's grasscourt win in Nottingham. Barty consolidated her level in tennis and broke into the top 20 in the world.
"It's been a great finish in China this week", Barty said after Sunday's win. "I'm very excited that it's finished now, time for some vacation and "relax" time before we gear up for the Australian summer". Wang, who claimed the last direct qualifying spot with an annual points total of 2155, bounced back by coming from a set down to defeat Keys in the second round-robin match in the Azalea Group.
Barty will try to extend her lead in their head to head record as she beat Wang in Strasbourg in straight sets earlier this year.
China's number one did not initially qualify for the tie, but took advantage of a late call-up following an injury to Madison Keys and cruised to victory over double grand slam victor Muguruza.
