Report: Bryce Harper Turned Down $300 Million Contract From Nationals
If the Phillies decided to make an offer that topped Stanton, they could top the Nationals' offer and top Stanton's contract by offering a deal worth $330 million over 10 years.
According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Phillies are likely to sign free agent superstar Bryce Harper. They signed "in a non-rights market", Boras said - one in which multiple teams could not bid on his services. But if they do, it nearly certainly won't be that deal, and Washington's general manager and president of baseball operations Mike Rizzo acknowledged on Tuesday that his team can not afford to wait around for the right-fielder to make his decision.
While Harper could be exploring other options, it's still possible he might return to the Nationals. But the Dodgers could have a change of heart. And the Nationals, of course, could up-the-ante.
The biggest name taking part in this year's edition of Major League Baseball free agency is easily Bryce Harper.
What we learned from Duke’s big win over Kentucky
Three Duke players scored at least 22 points while freshman Keldon Johnson tallied 23 points for Kentucky in the losing effort. The Jayhawks never trailed in the second half. "This game was supposed to (feature) the top two recruiting classes".
Harper in the middle of that lineup could certainly help the team break its three-year playoff drought. It may not have been.
Jim Salisbury of NBCSP says "the general consensus at the general managers meetings is that the Phillies will win the Bryce Harper sweepstakes". For those of you without a math degree, $35 million per year over a 13-year period would be $455 million.
Harper's contract season of 2018 was a mixed bag. Just how big his contract will be remains to be seen; however, he's already turned down a massive deal.
Harper is a 6-time All-Star with 184 home runs, 521 RBI and a.900 OPS in his career.
Harper has played for the Washington Nationals since 2012, but many expect him to look elsewhere in free agency.
