Migrant Caravan Pentagon Refuses Trump Order to Deploy US Troops to Border
USA troops, along with Customs and Border Protection officers, have been working to secure sections of the Texas-Mexico border, in part by laying down barbed-wire fencing, as new photos show. "There is no plan for soldiers to come in contact with immigrants or to reinforce Department of Homeland Security as they are conducting their mission".
The first defense official said that in its response to DHS, the Defense Department said that if Homeland Security officials still want the reserve force of USA troops, they should ask the White House to formally grant the Pentagon the authorities to perform those additional functions.
Last week, President Trump described "massive cities of tents" being built by the military that he said would house migrants seeking asylum. "They have violently overrun the Mexican border".
Trump changed his stance the following day. "But we're going to arrest those people quickly and for a long time". They're going to be very nice. "And three, do they have the capability, the wherewithal to perform the task we've asked them to accomplish?"
President Donald Trump's decision to deploy U.S. active duty troops and earlier deployment of National Guard forces to the southern border could cost between $200 million and $300 million, according to an independent analysis and Department of Defense figures on guard deployments.
In addition, CBP officers have been training with the military soldiers in crowd control measures.
