According to reports, the emergency services at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport knew that the flight, which was headed to Canada, was in trouble within 45 minutes of take-off.
Officials say a Fly Jamaica Boeing 757-200 aircraft has overshot the runway at Guyana's main global airport, injuring several people.
As such, preparations were made for an emergency landing but the Pilot was unable to get the aircraft to an absolute stop before the end of the runway.
The plane had 118 passengers, two infants and eight crew members on board. "We were in the air flying for 15 minutes and captain said there is a hydraulic problem, and turned the plane back. captain dumped fuel and then landed".
The flight reportedly left Guyana at 2:10 a.m. local time Friday and at 2:21 a.m. the pilot indicated a problem with the hydraulics, prompting a request by the crew to return to the airport.

"We are providing local assistance and will release further information as soon as it is available", it added. The runway then was 2,255 metres long, but is now being extended to 3,048 metres.
