Approximately 75,000 homes are under evacuation orders in Ventura and Los Angeles counties Friday morning.

The Camp Fire headed to the outskirts of Chico early on Friday, forcing thousands to flee after it left the nearby town of Paradise in ruins, California fire officials said.

"There was really no firefight involved", said Capt. Scott McLean of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, explaining that crews gave up on attacking the flames and instead helped people evacuate.

Thousands of people are now being evacuated in Ventura County due to the Woolsey fire that's raging in California.

CAL Fire reports they are assisting with a wildfire that has broken out in Ventura County.

Residents have now been ordered to evacuate from several more towns to the west of Thousand Oaks, including Calabasas immediately south of Highway 101 and Malibu on the coast, as well as from the western edge of Los Angeles.

To the west in Ventura County, Moorpark College is closed due to the impacts of fire and Wednesday night's deadly mass shooting in nearby Thousand Oaks.

Just 12 minutes after it started Thursday afternoon, the flames spread across U.S. 101, leaving several drivers temporarily stranded.

Multiple fires were reported at more than 10,000 acres with high rate of spread and mandatory evacuation orders in place as of 8 a.m. Friday, according to Cal Fire. No roadways were closed as of Friday.

Residents posted on social media to share their views of the flames almost consuming the hillside in the Newbury Park area of western Thousand Oaks.

Drivers heading south to Los Angeles will encounter closures on both sides of Highway 101 from Reyes Adobe Road in Agoura Hills to Las Virgenes Road in Calabasas, according to Caltrans District 7.

Fire crews Thursday morning were dealing with 40 miles per hour wind gusts.

Winds were expected to weaken Friday afternoon into Saturday.
