Fred Hoiberg Ousted as Bulls Head Coach
Hoiberg's recipe for success was clear to everyone who followed his team, everyone except those running the Bulls organization.
The Chicago Bulls have fired head coach Fred Hoiberg. It's a major step for the team who are finally starting to get a few healthy starters into the lineup as the new year approaches. They have lost their last six games.
Before his Bulls stint, Hoiberg coached five seasons at Iowa State, leading the Cyclones to the Sweet 16 in 2014.
According to reports, associate head coach Jim Boylen has been promoted to head coach.
Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations John Paxson said the move was hard but was necessary with the Bulls mired at 5-19, with only two teams with worse records.
Boylen has 33 years of coaching experience, including 20 seasons in the National Basketball Association. He was the head coach at the University of Utah (2007-2011), leading the Utes to a 69-60 record.
Chicago will take the floor for the first time under its new head coach on December 5 when it visits Indiana. The writing was on the wall for the Bulls to move on, although they may have done it sooner than many would have thought. Denzel Valentine (ankle), Kris Dunn (knee) and Bobby Portis (knee) have missed significant time and forward Lauri Markkanen didn't make his season debut until this past weekend because of an elbow injury.
Hoiberg had gone 115-155 in over three seasons with the team and made one playoff appearance, losing to the Celtics in the first 2017 first round.
