Kuo: AirPods with New Design Coming in 2020
In fact, the launch of version 2019 could be followed by the launch of a completely new version of AirPods in the course of 2020.
What's new with Apple wireless headphones doesn't end there. Considering that Kuo was one of the first analysts to talk about the launch of the original AirPods prior to Apple's presentation, everything seems to indicate that their sources are quite reliable.
In short, AirPods appear to be yet another Apple product that was mocked early on before going on to becoming a legitimate success.
It has been rumored for a while that Apple has been working on an improved set of AirPods, and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has now offered more details in a report viewed by 9to5Mac. The particular model is also expected to support Bluetooth v5.0 alongside a revised W-series processor. However, it makes sense that the wireless charging case - which boasts a green indicator light on the outside so AirPod owners can tell at-a-glance when the earbuds are charging - would launch alongside a new iteration of the earbuds. If this turns out to be true, then owners of the first-generation wireless earphones won't have to purchase the new upgraded version just to take advantage of the wireless charging support. The AirPods could even have Bluetooth spec updates and some internal components are likely to cost more.

It sounds like there won't be next-generation Apple AirPods during the holiday shopping season.
In 2020, Kuo expects to see entirely new and redesigned AirPods from Apple, but never mentioned what they might look like. Furthermore, Kuo is placing high expectations on the AirPods, as he predicts 55 million units to be sold in 2019 which is nearly twice the amount he predicted for this year. Kuo, however, has not confirmed what exactly "wireless charging support" means in its note obtained by Apple Insider.
