Washington to pay respects, bid farewell to George H.W. Bush

Historians believe Harry S. Truman's folksy aphorism about friends in Washington and dogs is probably apocryphal - the 33rd USA president didn't actually like dogs - but he would surely have fallen for Sully's charms.

"He will be working alongside fellow VetDogs facility dogs SGT Dillon and SGT Truman who are there to assist with physical and occupational therapy to wounded soldiers and active duty personnel during their journey to recovery at Walter Reed Bethesda", the organization said.

A moving photo of the late President George H.

The report noted that Sully can perform a number of commands, including answering the phone and fetching specific items.

One of Bush's former senior aides, Ron Kaufman, says Bush's death marks "the end of a culture - a culture of civility".

"The president and first lady were notified late last night of President George H.W. Bush's passing", Sanders said in the Saturday statement.

Bush received the two-year-old Labrador in June from America's VetDogs charity.

The photo touched the hearts of many Twitter users. The train will take about 2½ hours to travel roughly 70 miles to the city of College Station, home to Bush's presidential library at Texas A&M University.

James Baker, Bush's former secretary of state and his friend of 60 years, told CNN on Sunday he considered Bush as "the most kind and considerate person I ever knew".

Bush died Friday at his home in Houston at 94.

George H.W. Bush is set to embark on his final tour of Washington, the USA capital that is remembering the 41st president's lifetime of public service that began in the navy during the Second World War, ended with one term as the country's leader, and was characterized by what admirers say was his innate decency, generosity and kindness. His casket will be transported by motorcade Wednesday morning to the National Cathedral, where a state funeral will be held at 11 a.m. EST.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the first official to speak in the Rotunda, described George HW Bush as a "humble servant" and "a principled leader".

The Capitol will be open for dignitaries and the public to pay their respects through early Wednesday, with visitors allowed to walk past Bush's casket. The crew has been tasked by President Trump with carrying out "Special Air Mission 41".
