Rahm cruises to emphatic Hero World Challenge success

Spain's Jon Rahm hits from the fourth tee during the last round of the Hero World Challenge at Albany Golf Club in Nassau Bahamas Sunday Dec. 2 2018

Tony Finau made an excellent par-save at the last to join Henrik Stenson and Jon Rahm at the top of the leaderboard after the third round of the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas on Saturday.

The 2018 season had been "incredible", Tiger Woods said on Sunday after completing his final round of the year.

After his victory, Woods presented Rahm the trophy and apparently made a quip about his asking for advice.

Summing up his year, Rahm said, "As I said, this year was not so much about golf, it was about me as a person, so to win as many times as I did last year, it just shows that when I get into contention, to me nothing else matters".

"I played nicely birding four of the par-fives, and on this golf course, we have five of them", said Finau who is making his debut in the $3 million event hosted by Tiger Woods on the Albany Club course.

Swede Stenson faded with a 71 to finish six shots back in fourth place in the elite 18-man field.

Rose could not end the year with the world No.1 ranking as Finau birdied the final hole which pushed him to third.

Relieved defending champion Cameron Smith held off a final round charge from close friend Marc Leishman to win the Australian PGA Championship by two strokes on Sunday.

Smith became the first player since Robert Allenby in 2001 to win the Australian PGA in successive years.

Doubts on the rise about the US-China ceasefire

Tired of waiting for asylum, migrants from caravan breach US border
A second taller fence past a hill kept them from reaching California, creating an area heavily guarded by border patrols . The crossings started just before dusk when "three thin people" managed to "squeeze through the fence on the beach".

Recalling the whole incident and the match, Rahm said, "Then on the last putt right before I hit it, somebody in Spanish yelled, "Do it for Seve", at the top of his lungs".

While Rahm may have run away with the victory late, there was still some drama related to the race for the World No. 1 ranking, which remains very closely contested between Brooks Koepka and Justin Rose.

Speaking at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, Woods said his desire was as strong as ever but acknowledged that his middle-aged and much-operated-on body was not able to do all the things his younger self could. "That's what I want to do".

The 24-year-old captured the PGA Tour's CareerBuilder Challenge in January and won the European Tour's Spanish Open in April.

The tournament is sanctioned by the Asian Tour, European Tour and Sunshine Tour.

If there was one person for whom this weekend wasn't special, it may have been Woods.

Rahm finished the tournament at 20-under 268, while Finau totaled a 16-under 272 to finish second.

S Chikkarangappa of India and Matthieu Pavon of France each shot 67 and tied for second.
