Flynn pleaded guilty last December to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his contacts with the Russian government while he was serving as White House national security adviser.

Flynn participated in 19 interviews and gave the Mueller team "substantial" information. Trump has denied asking Comey to drop the investigation, but that conversation between the fired FBI director and the president is reportedly one under scrutiny by the special counsel's office as he investigates whether Trump attempted to obstruct the Russian Federation investigation.

He is the only member of the Trump administration so far to plead guilty as a result of the investigation. CNN's Manu Raju observed that Trump is offering a "big signal here" that he could pardon Stone and is "encouraging him not to cooperate".

It's unclear if Trump will now turn his fury on Flynn, who Trump grew close to during the 2016 campaign and has drawn the president's sympathy since he came under investigation.

Flynn also admitted to making false statements about unregistered foreign agent work he performed for the benefit of the Turkish government.

Cohen, who is cooperating with a federal investigation into whether Trump's campaign worked with Russian Federation to sway the election, is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec 12 after pleading guilty to tax evasion, making false statements to a bank, campaign finance violations, and lying to Congress.

Trump, who has repeatedly called the probe a "witch hunt", in late November submitted written answers to questions from Mueller related to the investigation. Flynn's sentencing is scheduled for December 18.

Trump has long surrounded himself with liars, and for quite a while he's been using Twitter to praise the liars who impede the Mueller probe and castigate any former confidante who agrees to tell Mueller the truth about Trumpworld.

The Mueller-Cohen deal also involves cooperation with federal prosecutors.

Prosecutors said the two men discussed USA sanctions against Russian Federation and that Flynn also asked Kislyak to help delay a United Nations vote seen as damaging to Israel.

In this 2017 photo, National Security Adviser Michael Flynn speaks during the daily news briefing at the White House in Washington.

Mr Flynn's short tenure as Mr Trump's national security adviser ended in February 2017 after just 23 days.

Flynn admitted in his plea that he spoke to the Russians at the direction of Trump transition team officials.

The White House has said that Flynn misled officials- including Vice President Mike Pence - about the content of his conversations. Flynn "made multiple false statements, to multiple Department of Justice ("DOJ") entities, on multiple occasions".
