Apple iPhones Likely To Be Assembled at Foxconn’s Facility in India By 2019 - Report
Amid reports of Apple halting a production boost for its newest iPhones due to slower than expected demand, a new survey of United States customers revealed that more Android users switched loyalty to Apple this year than in previous years.
If this goes ahead, it will help Apple manufacture more iPhone models in India, helping them meet 30% requirement of locally-manufactured products in order to get clearance for opening retail stores in the country.
Apple launched the pricey iPhone X last year, but has cut production of that phone since it began selling the newer versions, iPhone XS and XR, globally this year, industry analysts have said.
Apple already has a manufacturing unit in India through Wistron in Bengaluru, but it only makes low-priced iPhone SE and 6S models. The investment will create up to 25,000 jobs in the country and reduce Foxconn's (and Apple's) manufacturing presence in China.
Dow notches record point surge in dramatic rebound
The Toronto Stock Exchange was closed on Wednesday along with markets in Europe, Hong Kong and Australia. Bank stocks fell along with Treasury yields, which affect interest rates on mortgages and other loans.
However, according to a report by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, this year's most affordable iPhone variant - iPhone Xr - has lured more Android users to upgrade to iPhone than last year. However, the company has kept its higher-end iPhone production in China, where iPhones have been assembled since their initial release in 2007.
No doubt, Apple is seeing a decline in its overall sales volumes across the world. Due to import taxes, an iPhone XS 64GB now costs $1421 Dollars in India! The American tech giant is looking to steer the business to a new level as far as the Indian market is concerned.
Full details of Apple's deal with Foxconn are not yet clear and could change. Apple and Foxconn did not respond to Reuters' queries on the development.
"This year, Apple launched the more expensive models earlier, presumably trying to catch early demand from the most loyal customers".
