Jimmy Kimmel Gives Federal Workers a Job During Government Shutdown
Fox anchor Shepard Smith mercilessly fact-checked the president's almost 10-minute speech from the Oval Office immediately after it ended, breaking down a "number of claims" that were grossly misleading.
After Trump said that "innocent people" are being "horribly victimized" by immigrants who commit crimes, Smith quickly added perspective.
And the deeper numbers indicate those tuning in are more likely to be opposed to Trump's request for $5.7 billion in funding for a border wall.
The fact-checking nonprofit PolitiFact, run by the Poynter Institute, said on Twitter that it will live fact-check the president's address Tuesday night.
Those that disagree with Trump were eager to see the Democratic response, which was broadcast on networks shortly after Trump's speech wrapped up.

Naturally, the president's address was also met with criticism from Democratic leaders like Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, who accused him of trying to "stoke fear" - so, you know Trump's boiling over the fact that he was skewered just as badly by his favorite ass-kissing network.
One CNN chyron read: "Trump: 90% of heroin comes across the Southern border".
Over on ABC, Jimmy Kimmel discussed whether it was acceptable for the networks to "give the President a forum to lie to us on television". "He played them, and they let them do it".
Normally, Fox News viewers can count on watching hours and hours of regularly scheduled programming without getting a whiff of an inconvenient truth, but tonight Shepard Smith, one of the few (only?) honest brokers on the network, called Trump out on the steaming pile of racist offal he was serving the nation tonight. That sets a precedent that may be tough for them to back away from in future events, he said.
"The president made no news and no new proposals", he said.
