Things have turned for the worst at Laerskool Schweizer-Reneke since we last reported that the North West Basic Education department would be visiting the school on Thursday.
A South African primary school teacher was suspended on Thursday after a photograph appeared to show black children sitting separately from white children in a classroom, sparking a storm of racism accusations.
The picture showed the 18 white learners in the classroom all occupying a single large desk in the middle of the classroom, while the four black children in the class occupied one desk in a corner at the far end of the classroom.
According to the mother, she dropped of her child at school and around 9am, the teacher posted a photo of the grade R classroom on WhatsApp to give the parents an update on their kids.
The school principal apparently told parents she was not aware of the situation.
The images caused a stir on social media with political parties weighing in on the matter.
A mother of one of the black students said she was outraged at the segregation and also the fact that not one of the white parents had mentioned it.
