De Blasio 'Guarantees Healthcare' for all 600,000 Uninsured New Yorkers

NYC Mayor Announces Health Care Coverage For All New York City Residents

De Blasio announces health care coverage for all New Yorkers

Funding for the new program will require no tax hikes, the mayor said. We'll put the money in it to make it work. "We are saying the word "guarantee" because we can make it happen".

De Blasio's $100 million commitment was laden with political significance. He added that NY has a public health insurance option, MetroPlus, that the city aims to improve, expand and support through NYC Care.

The two-prong plan provides an option for both people who either can't afford insurance or who can but choose not to.

According to the mayor's office, 600,000 New Yorkers without insurance will benefit from the program. The new plan provides insurance for visits to doctors outside of hospitals; health experts say that access to regular medical visits can cut down on costly hospital stays.

NYC Care is set to begin in the Bronx this summer and will roll out to the rest of the boroughs by 2021.

During a news conference on Tuesday, de Blasio was asked for further details about the plan's "sliding scale". "This is going to be a difference-maker in their lives". "But our people need healthcare right now". And if health care insurance did cost $166 per person per year then it wouldn't be a problem, would it? His "health care for all" effort seems little different.

Mourinho rules out return to management at Benfica following Man Utd sacking
They're not signing someone they don't know, they are going for someone they know, someone who has already been there. Barely one month after being sacked by Manchester United , Jose Mourinho is reportedly ready to take up another job.

According to de Blasio many residents are uninsured, meaning they must resort to the emergency room for treatment and the city's money is not well spent for this reason.

'If folks get primary care or mental health services when they need them at the right point in life, that means you avoid everything from homelessness, incarceration, people losing their jobs'. Health care is a human right. "It's knowing where you can go for care and feeling welcome when you go for care". The program will cost at least $100 million a year.

Kevin Dugan, government affairs director for the New York State Restaurant Association, called the proposal "very concerning" to the restaurant industry. "New Yorkers who can't enroll in or afford health insurance will now be able to access comprehensive, patient-centered services through NYC Care".

De Blasio's announcement comes as Medicare for All and immigrant rights are being pushed into the political mainstream by progressive politicians and as the conservative Republican Trump administration has launched attacks against both. They have a name, an address.

How about the Mayor of New York City take care of the people that was born here, like the ones that are sleeping on our streets. "And we can get it to them". "They can call this number and get real-time help about what pharmacy would be open", or find out which urgent care center can see them for a sore throat.

In a nod to creating a state-based single-payer system, the Democratic governor sent a letter to President Donald Trump and congressional leadership on Monday requesting that the federal government "empower States like mine to design and implement truly transformative solutions for securing affordable health care for all".
