Rajasthan Baby's Body Split Into Two During Botched up Delivery Mother Finds Out About it in Another Hospital

The carelessness and the insensitivity shown by the accused male nurse and his colleague endangered the life of the mother, who is said to be fighting for her life in the hospital.

The nurse was allegedly left holding the baby's torso while its decapitated head was left inside the mum's body in the reported horrific incident on January 6.

The Hindustan Times said the nurse had pulled "so hard while attempting to deliver the baby that it broke into two parts".

The nurses, at a government health centre in Ramgarh, then asked the woman's family to take her to a hospital.

"The two male nurses on duty that night have been suspended".

The family approached the police after doctors at Jodhpur Umaid Hospital informed them about the mishap.

A case has been registered under Section 304 A (causing death by negligence) and Section 336 (endangering life of a person) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Amritlal and Junjhar, police said.

The baby's father told India's English news channel Times Now on Thursday that hospital staff members failed to tell him about their mistake and even tried to hide the baby's body from him.

She was then transferred to Ummed Hospital in nearby Jodhpur, where doctors thinking they were recovering the placenta, were shocked to discover the foetus' dismembered head.

The staff did not inform the family about her situation and referred her first to Jaisalmer. Chief medical health officer, Jaisalmer, Dr B L Bunkar said, "I visited Ramgarh and investigated the matter".

ANI quoted Dr Sankhla from Jaisalmer's Jawahar Hospital as saying that: "The reports from the Ramgarh health centre stated that delivery had been done".

"When questioned, the hospital staffers handed over the lower part of the foetus to us", he said.
