Apple suggests new manufacturing process causes bending in iPad Pro

According to Apple, that makes them 35 percent faster than the 2017 iPad Pros (which feature an A10X Fusion chip) for single-core tasks and up to 90 percent faster on multi-core tasks.
Best Buy is now having a 2-day sale that slashes up to $150 off select latest model iPad Pro tablets. To provide optimal cellular performance, small vertical bands or "splits" in the sides of the iPad allow parts of the enclosure to function as cellular antennas.
"In this high-temperature process, plastic is injected into precisely milled channels in the aluminum enclosure where it bonds to micro-pores in the aluminum surface", the document reads. After the plastic cools, the enclosure is finished with precision CNC machining operation.
Now the company has gone further, publishing a support page explaining the manufacturer and testing process of the iPad Pro, and explaining that the way the tablet is made is the reason some people see a bend.
The company also adds that it "allows for no more than 400 microns of deviation across the length of any side - less than the thickness of four sheets of paper". The company went on to say that these deviations may be more noticeable from different viewing angles, and that this may be even more noticeable on iPad Pro cellular models due to the presence of antenna splits located on the tablet's enclosure. When the new iPad Pro was released late previous year, there was no doubt it's a great device but the price was quite eye-watering.
These precision manufacturing techniques and a rigorous inspection process ensure that these new iPad Pro models meet an even tighter specification for flatness than previous generations. Interestingly, as the Verge notes, Apple doesn't include any images in the advisory about what "400 microns of deviation" looks like.
The support page essentially confirms once again that some new iPad Pros will ship with a bend, and Apple is once again stating that this is not an issue. It also appears that the cellular iPad Pro is particularly susceptible to bending issues, and if we're reading Apple's article correctly, it appears the way such iPads are bonded could cause a slight bend.
Whether you get it as a gift or gifted it to yourself, there's a little bit of extra prep work to do if you've just gotten your hands on a new 2018 iPad Pro.
Of course, it's possible some of the devices that are exhibiting bends in excess of Apple's tolerances are mistreating their devices.
