A failure to deliver Brexit would be "a catastrophic and unforgivable breach of trust in our democracy", Prime Minister Theresa May has warned.
Writing in the Sunday Express ahead of a critical vote this week, May urged lawmakers to "do what is right for the country", because she said rejecting the will of the people would be "a catastrophic and unforgivable breach of trust in our democracy".
"So my message to Parliament this weekend is simple: It is time to forget the games and do what is right for our country". The vexed Brexit issue represents Britain's biggest shift in foreign and trade policy in more than 40 years.
The deal has come under fire from across the political spectrum, with opponents of the European Union seeking a cleaner break and pro-European lawmakers pressing for a second vote on membership of the bloc.
But May is facing an uphill task to save her withdrawal agreement - forged during 18 months of talks between London and Brussels - from a crushing defeat in parliament.
One of May's opponents in the Labour Party said he would table a vote of no confidence in the government if she loses.
Blocking Brexit could put an end to the centuries of "moderate" United Kingdom politics and "open the door" to extremists, a Cabinet minister has warned.
- It emerged that 14 military planners have been deployed to four key Whitehall departments to assist with no-deal planning, according to a Freedom of Information request by the Observer.

The risk of the British parliament seeking to frustrate Brexit has increased, Brexit minister Stephen Barclay said on Sunday.
Under the rebels' plan, reported in the Sunday Times, the Government would lose control of parliamentary business which would threaten Brexit legislation and the Government's ability to govern.
"I think it's now looking much less likely that parliament would allow a no-deal outcome", he toldthe BBC.
In addition to recommending that MPs reject both a no-deal Brexit and the Prime Minister's deal, the letter states that the European Union should be asked to extend Article 50 beyond the current March 29 deadline, with a view to then supporting a new referendum on European Union membership.
And he hinted at his opposition to another referendum, saying: "My own view is that I'd rather get a negotiated deal now, if we can, to stop the danger of a no-deal exit".
Meanwhile, James Starkie, a former Vote Leave campaigner and ex-adviser to Environment Secretary Michael Gove, has told the BBC that a no-deal Brexit could have an impact on food imports from Europe.
"Clearly there's only a few weeks between that and the leave date, there would have to be time for those negotiations", he said.
