Woman Wakes Up Unable To Hear Men's Voices

Woman wakes up to discover she is deaf to male voices
In what nearly sounds like an excuse not to listen to her boyfriend, a woman in China has been diagnosed with a rare condition that makes her unable to hear the sound of men's voices, but can hear women just fine.
According to the Daily Mail, she made the discovery after she woke up one morning and couldn't hear her boyfriend talking.
Presumably, a little unnerved, she checked into Qianpu Hospital to see an ear, nose and throat specialist, where she was able to hear her doctor speak but not, bizarrely, a patient who walked into the room.
It sounds unbelievable but a rare condition called Low-Frequency Hearing Loss cuts off deeper sounds.
Reverse-slope hearing loss can occur due to a lack of sleep or physical stress which Dr Xiaoqing believes is the case, but can also be due to genetics.
Deputies agree historic name change for Macedonia
Stoltenberg said in a tweet that the name change deal is "an important contribution to a stable and prosperous region". The remaining opposition lawmakers stayed away in protest, according to the Associated Press reports .
Some symptoms of RSHL include having difficulty understanding speech over the phone, having no problems understanding women and children but having difficulties understanding men, and being unable to hear low-frequency environmental sounds such as the whirring of a refrigerator. Interestingly, she only lost her hearing for men's voices but not women's voices.
Low frequency hearing loss can be very unsafe for people as it can affect their ability to hear things like the low hum of an oncoming vehicle. The Thigpen Hearing Center, an audiology clinic in Tennessee, states that RHSL affects only about 3,000 people in the United States and Canada.
RSHL is the opposite, hence its name, reverse-slope hearing loss. A change in the pressure of the fluid in the inner ear has also been known to be a trigger.
Though it might be amusing to imagine a world in which male voices are nonexistent, hearing loss is no laughing matter, Clark said. A range of factors can cause hearing loss, including hereditary diseases, infections, certain drugs, aging, and exposure to loud noises.
