Kevin McCarthy on "Face the Nation": "Action will be taken" against Steve King for white supremacy comment
"Action will be taken", McCarthy stated, adding, "I'm having a serious conversation with congressman Steve King".
McCarthy did not elaborate on what action he plans on taking after his meeting with King.
Senator Tim Scott, a Republican representing SC, penned a thoughtful piece in The Washington Post on how some fellow Republicans like Steve King are damaging the party by spewing thoughts that lack basic fairness and civility yet wonder why the party is considered to be racist.
"I don't see Democrats condemning Democrats on their side who are doing this kind of thing and using this kind of language", he said, without offering a specific example.
Recently re-elected to a ninth term, King has since insisted he is an advocate for "Western civilization", not white supremacy or white nationalism.
"Actions will be taken", he said. "Why did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?" Following his interview Sunday, McCarthy told "Face the Nation" moderator Margaret Brennan he is reviewing whether King should keep his committee assignments.
King was quoted in The New York Times last week as saying, "White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization - how did that language become offensive?" "But the more you guys write about that stuff, then it becomes an issue".
"I condemn Rep. Steve King'scomments on white supremacy; they are offensive and racist - and not representative of our state of Iowa".
King has been assigned to agriculture, small business and judiciary committees, according to his House website.
And the Congressional Black Caucus was not the only entity to come out against King on Saturday. We are a great nation and this divisiveness is hurting everyone.
He said, "King's views are not conservative views but separate views that should be ridiculed at every turn possible". "This is a uniquely fractured time in our nation's history, not our worst but far from our best, and it is only together that we will rebuild the trust we seem to have lost in each other", Scott wrote in The Washington Post.
When Cruz was asked whether he would support King in the future, the senator did not provide a direct answer.
